It Starts Earlier Than It Used To
The ceremony starts at 7:00 PM ET, an hour earlier than the 8:00 PM start it ran at for years. The Academy made that change for the 2025 ceremony and has kept it since, so 2027 is the third year at the earlier time. On the West Coast it goes out live at 4:00 PM PT, in the afternoon.
ABC typically fills the hours before the ceremony with red carpet coverage, so tuning in early gets you the arrivals rather than dead air.
The short version: You don't need cable or Hulu to watch the Oscars. Point an antenna at your local ABC station on the evening of March 14, 2027, and the whole ceremony is free.

The ceremony also streams on Hulu, which requires a subscription. The ABC broadcast is the same show, for free, in HD.

Nominations are announced on January 21, 2027, covering films released in 2026, across 24 categories. That gives you about seven weeks to catch up on the nominees before the ceremony.
